Shooting La Cañada Flintridge

Big lots, tall trees and the foothills behind

La Cañada Flintridge sits against the San Gabriel Mountains, and the foothills are the backdrop to nearly every listing. Foothill Boulevard runs through town, Descanso Gardens and its oak woodland are on the edge of it, and the Angeles Crest Highway starts here and climbs into the range. Buyers know that setting. The listing should show it. You'll have photos and drone the next morning, and the listing video follows in 2 to 4 business days.

The houses here are big-lot ranch and traditional homes, and on a lot that size the yard is part of what's for sale. We shot a white farmhouse-style two-story at twilight: a band of clerestory windows along the roofline, a covered patio the full width of the back and a deep lawn running out to the trees. Brick pavers and a wood-clad front door sit under a dark tile roof on the street side.

From the air, most of the neighborhood is tree canopy. In our drone frames the rooftops sit under tall pines and old trees, and the mountains close off the view at the end of the street. In the fall, one tree beside the house turns red and orange against the dusk sky. That's the frame a buyer remembers, so we fly it.

Tall trees throw shade across a lawn long before the sky goes dark, and a room under big pines can look dim in a daytime frame. We shoot the interiors while the light is strong, balance the exposures so the rooms keep their color, then wait for dusk. On the farmhouse, the lit windows and the covered patio glowed against a pink sky.

A patio that runs the full width of a house needs its own frame. We shoot it as a room: table set, lounge chairs out, lights on. A drone pass then shows how the patio, the lawn and the trees fit together on the lot.

La Cañada Flintridge questions
What does La Cañada Flintridge real estate photography cost?

The same as anywhere in LA: priced by the home's size. Photos start at $250, and listing packages run from $650 (Standard) to $2,200 (Signature). You see your exact price before you book.

Can you fly a drone over a house that backs up to the foothills in La Cañada Flintridge?

In most cases, yes. We check the airspace for each address before a flight, and our pilots are FAA Part 107 licensed. Here the drone shows how the yard sits among the trees, how close the mountains are and what the street looks like from above.

How do you shoot a big lot with a long covered patio?

We treat the patio as its own room. Table set, lounge chairs out, lights on, and the camera far enough back to show how it runs along the back of the house. Then a wide frame from the lawn and a drone pass show how far the yard goes. On the white two-story we shot here, the twilight frames were the last ones of the day.

Do tall trees make a house too dark in photos?

Not when the shoot is planned for it. We shoot interiors while the light is strong, balance the exposures so a room under tall pines keeps its color and save the exteriors for dusk, when the windows glow. The trees stay in the frame. They're part of why people want to live here.

Do you cover the streets that back up to the foothills?

Yes, all of La Cañada Flintridge. Tell us if the street is narrow or steep when you book, and we'll plan the load-in and parking around it.

Which La Cañada Flintridge neighborhoods do you cover?

We cover La Cañada Flintridge, from the Foothill Boulevard corridor to the Flintridge streets, plus La Crescenta, Altadena and Pasadena around it.
