Media That Sells
Listing film, reel, or walkthrough: which video does your LA listing need?

Most LA listings need one video, not five. The question is which one earns its cost first. The Spotlight is a cinematic walkthrough built for the MLS, YouTube and your listing website. The Signature Reel is a shorter, hook-first cut built for Instagram, TikTok and Reels, where the buyer was never searching the MLS in the first place. Day-to-night video and an agent intro add polish once the base film is booked. The Walkthrough reel is a lighter, filmed-and-edited walk through the home for when a full cinematic film is more than the listing needs. That's different from the one-take walkthrough: you, talking and walking on your own phone, which is the one format we don't shoot, and in our experience is still the single highest-performing thing most agents post themselves. If you can only book one, book the Spotlight. Below: a comparison table, four honest scenarios, and one real Bel Air shoot that shows how the formats actually stack.
Which video does my listing actually need?
That depends on where the video needs to work, not on which one sounds the most impressive. A cinematic listing film and a vertical reel are built for two different audiences: one lives on the MLS and your listing site, the other lives on a phone screen mid-scroll. Book the wrong one for the goal and it still looks good, it just doesn't do the job you needed it to do.
This guide only compares video formats. If you're still deciding between photo, video and a 3D tour for the listing overall, start with photo vs. video vs. 3D tour: which sells which listing? first, then come back here once you know video is part of the plan.
If you can only book one, book the Spotlight video. It's the base video product, it's included starting at the Debut package, and it runs everywhere a buyer or a future seller will actually look: the MLS, YouTube, your listing website, and the reel you bring to your next listing pitch. Add the Signature Reel once the listing (or your own following) can use a second, shorter cut built for social.
What each format actually is
Most of these are films Virtual View Tours shoots for you, in the same visit as your photos. One is a posting format built from footage already on hand. Only one is entirely yours to shoot, and it stays that way on purpose. Here's what each one is for, and who's behind the camera.
- The Spotlight video is a clean walkthrough paced like a home tour. It runs on the MLS, YouTube and your website, and becomes the sample you bring to the next listing pitch.
- The Signature Reel is a vertical, hook-first cut built for Instagram, TikTok and Reels. It finds the buyers who were never searching the MLS.
- Day-to-night video melts day into dusk in one cinematic beat. It's the shot people remember and forward, and it's what separates a video from a film.
- Agent intro / outro puts your name and face on the open and close of the edit, so the video markets you as much as the home. At the Signature tier that becomes a fuller, premium agent-on-camera segment.
- The Walkthrough reel is a steady, filmed walk through the home, shot and cut by VVT, for a listing where a full cinematic film is more than the moment calls for. It's a different product from the one below: this one has our crew and our edit behind it.
- The one-take walkthrough is you, talking, walking the home on your own phone: your voice, your face, built for Stories. VVT doesn't film this one today. It works precisely because it's unscripted and it's you, not a crew.
- The carousel post mixes a short clip with stills in one Instagram post. It's a posting format, not a separate shoot, and a good way to get more mileage out of a package you've already booked.

Compare the seven formats side by side
Same shoot, different jobs. Here's how they line up, and who's actually behind the camera for each one.
| Format | What it's for | Where it runs | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spotlight video | Sells the feeling of walking the whole home | MLS, YouTube, your listing website, your next pitch | VVT films it, in the same visit as your photos |
| Signature Reel | Stops the scroll, reaches buyers off the MLS | Instagram, TikTok, Reels | VVT films it, in the same visit |
| Day-to-night video | One cinematic beat buyers remember and forward | Wherever the film or reel already lives | VVT films it, add-on to any package |
| Agent intro / outro | Puts your name and face on the open and close | Every edit; standard from Premiere up | VVT films it, add-on or included |
| Walkthrough reel | A steady, filmed walk through the home, lighter than a full cinematic film | Instagram, TikTok, your listing site | VVT films it, $200 add-on to any package |
| One-take walkthrough | A raw, talk-as-you-walk tour that feels personal | Instagram, TikTok, wherever you post | You film it yourself, on your phone |
| Carousel post | Stretches one shoot across more posts | Instagram, Facebook | VVT can cut the clips; you post the sequence |
Which does your listing need? Four honest scenarios
Price point and your own goals matter more than any rule of thumb. Here's how we'd think about four common situations:
- The starter condo, under about $700K. Photo Essentials (from $400) is the floor. If there's room, add the Spotlight video at the Debut level (from $650) so buyers see the space move, not just sit still. Skip the reel and the day-to-night for now. Film your own one-take walkthrough on the way out the door; it costs nothing and it's the post most likely to actually get watched. If you'd rather it be filmed and edited for you, the Walkthrough reel is a $200 add-on, the lightest paid video on the list.
- The standard family home, roughly $800K to $1.5M. This is where Premiere (from $1,100, our best seller) earns its keep: the Signature Reel plus agent intro/outro plus a 3D tour and floor plan, everything a buyer comparing several listings at this price actually uses.
- The luxury listing, $3M and up. Book Signature (from $2,000). Spotlight, Signature Reel, day-to-night video and premium agent on camera together make the listing feel like an event, and a carousel built from that same footage keeps it in front of buyers for weeks after launch.
- The agent building a brand, at any price point. Put yourself in the intro and outro on every shoot, keep posting your own one-take walkthroughs between listings, and ask for a carousel cut from any Premiere-or-up shoot so your feed never goes quiet between listings.
Every price above is for homes up to 2,000 sq ft; larger homes are priced per square foot. See the full breakdown on our pricing page, or the whole lineup on our cinematic video service page.
How the formats work together: one real shoot, three deliverables
947 N Beverly Glen Blvd, a real Bel Air listing, shows this better than a hypothetical could. One visit from Virtual View Tours produced three separate things: the cinematic Spotlight film for the listing site and the next pitch, a shorter cut trimmed for the MLS (which caps video length and wants the fastest possible look at the home), and a carousel built from the same clips for Instagram. Nothing here was reshot. It all came out of one shoot day. See the full case study →

The carousel followed one rule: lead with the video. The first slide was the aerial pass over the Bel Air hills toward the Century City skyline, moving, not a still. Three photos followed it: the craftsman entrance and sunroom, the wood-paneled library, and a living room seating detail. A moving frame is what stops a thumb mid-scroll. Stills are what keep someone swiping once they've stopped. Put a still first instead, and most people will have already scrolled past before the video ever gets its chance to stop them.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the Spotlight video and the Signature Reel?
The Spotlight is a walkthrough paced like a home tour, built for the MLS, YouTube and your listing site. The Signature Reel is a shorter, hook-first cut built for Instagram, TikTok and Reels. Most agents who book video end up wanting both once they see what each one does on its own platform.
Do I need the listing film and the reel, or is one enough?
If you can only book one, book the Spotlight. It's the format included starting at Debut, and it runs everywhere from the MLS to your next listing pitch. Add the Signature Reel once the listing, or your own following, can use a second cut built specifically for social.
Can I film the one-take walkthrough myself, or does VVT shoot that too?
The phone version, your own voice and face for Stories, is yours. Virtual View Tours doesn't currently film the one-take walkthrough; it works precisely because it's unscripted and it's you, on your own phone, not a crew. Our Ad Kit walks through how to shoot and post it well. If you'd rather we film and edit a similar walk for you, that's a different product: the Walkthrough reel, a $200 add-on shot and cut by VVT.
Does VVT shoot carousel content, or is that something I put together myself?
We shoot it. A carousel is really just a different way to post footage from a shoot day you've already booked, cut down into a short video slide plus a few stills. Our 947 N Beverly Glen Blvd case study walks through one real example, aerial pass first, stills after.
How fast do I get the video back?
Photos, drone and 3D land the next morning. The listing film takes up to 4 business days, the one deliverable we refuse to rush.
